In the year that sees the company celebrate 50 years of UK manufacturing in the UK, Fulton is also launching its latest heat transfer solution, claiming that the all-new, next-generation SRT Series is the most radical change to vertical steam boiler design for nearly 70 years.

Commenting for Fulton, sales and marketing manager Doug Howarth says: “This will be quite a year for Fulton. Not only are we celebrating 50 years of manufacturing in the UK, but we’re also launching a great new heat transfer solution that we believe to be the most radical change in steam boiler design since we pioneered the vertical tubeless boiler in 1949!”

By adopting a systems engineering approach to design and using its own ‘PURE’ technology, Fulton’s SRT Series challenges the heat transfer and mechanical design principles of traditional vertical steam boilers.

With over 30 worldwide patents pending, the new vertical boiler’s spiral-rib tubeless design is a world first that has enabled Fulton to create a compact boiler with the industry’s smallest footprint. In fact, compared to the equivalent 30hp model from the company’s renowned J Series, the SRT Series is an impressive 40% smaller.

Using a combination of in-house modelling with computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis, the ‘PURE Optimised’ design of the SRT Series makes the new boiler durable and reliable in operation; and with up to 6:1 turndown and featuring a fully-modulating burner, the SRT also boasts industry-leading performance with an 84.5% Gross (93.5% Net) thermal efficiency and 99.5% steam quality from a fully-water-backed design with no refractory.

The SRT Series features patented, self-compensating stress relief architecture that virtually removes longitudinal stress and deflection absorption. And, to comply with anticipated EU regulations, the boiler’s combustion technology has also been completely reconfigured, with the mesh burner and furnace designed as a single component, resulting in ultra-low NOx emissions of less than 40mg/kWh.

Fulton has further reason to celebrate, as 2016 sees the company celebrate 50 years of UK manufacturing, with the Bristol-based facility now an important design and manufacturing base in Fulton’s global network, which includes production facilities in the USA and China.

As Doug Howarth explains, Fulton concentrated on steam boiler manufacturer for many years, but the company is now a major solutions-based provider specialising in fully-packaged, ready-to-ship steam, hot water and thermal fluid heat transfer systems.

“We put great emphasis on providing sales and application advice and a full commissioning and after sales service, to a growing customer base in numerous sectors including food processing, brewing and distilling, etc.” says Doug.

For further information on the SRT Series, call Fulton on 0117 972 3322, email sales@fulton.co.uk or visit Fulton’s new-look website at www.fulton.co.uk.

Curtiss-Wright’s Industrial division announced that it will attend the 32nd International Seating Symposium at The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver from 1st to 4th March 2016.

The company will be promoting medical mobility solutions from its brand family of PG Drives Technology, including latest Bluetooth and Joystick Modules for its popular R-net wheelchair control system.

The Bluetooth Module for iDevices expands the functionality of the company’s R-net multi-module control system for rehab-type powerchairs and enables wheelchair users to control their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch using any of PG Drives Technology’s R-net Input Devices.

The new module has been designed to work with all existing R-net modules without the need for firmware upgrades and can be operated by any R-net input device including hand-, finger- and chin-operated joystick modules and the Omni specialty control interface. It can also be fitted in conjunction with existing R-net Bluetooth modules to allow one system to control iDevices and Android-based smart devices and Windows PCs.

Curtiss-Wright’s Industrial division will also be showcasing the CJSM2 Joystick Module, a next-generation product that sets new standards in user interfaces by incorporating a 3.5”, high-resolution LCD screen that mirrors the operating conditions of a wheelchair; and features a built-in light sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness to ambient light conditions.

Housed in a robust metal case for increased protection from impacts, this latest joystick module features easy-to-operate paddle switches for on/off, profile, mode and speed adjustment selections, eliminating the need for variants using toggle switches and potentiometers. The CJSM2 module also increases the programmability of user controls, including momentary or continuous operation of speed adjustments and horn volume. Using R-net’s unique Connect-and-Go capabilities also means the CJSM2 can seamlessly replace existing joystick modules with no system reconfiguration programming required.

Curtiss-Wright’s Industrial division has been designing, manufacturing and marketing sophisticated mobility control systems since 1976 and is one of the leading suppliers of these products.

AL-KO Kober Limited – the leading manufacturer of premium components for the automotive, commercial and leisure industries – has launched AAA Premium Brake, the company’s high-performance, automatically-adjusting braking system for commercial industrial trailers and leisure vehicles including caravans, horseboxes and boat trailers.

The new braking system – suitable for type 2051 wheel brakes and therefore compatible with most AL-KO trailer axles – addresses several key objectives in the industry, the most important being Type Approval changes due to be implemented by 2018. The changes call for automatic adjustment of braking systems to ensure that trailer braking is both efficient and safe.

A second objective of the AAA Premium Brake is to improve overall towing safety by ensuring that when required, the braking system on trailers operates efficiently to bring the trailer to a halt, or slows it down quickly and under control.

The AL-KO AAA Premium Brake system has been designed and thoroughly tested to operate in all climates and developed to dissipate heat quickly without causing operating issues within the brake drums. AL-KO Kober’s own testing has established that when correctly set up, the AAA Premium Brake system improves braking performance by bringing the towed vehicle to a halt 5 metres (the equivalent of one car length) shorter than the original brake components fitted to most caravans and trailers.

Commenting for AL-KO Kober, a spokesman says: “The AL-KO AAA Premium Brake will always deliver consistent and smooth braking action and optimum performance in all conditions and in all weather.”

They go on to say that an additional, major benefit of retro-fitting AAA Premium Brake in place of an original system, is the elimination of manual adjustment during a routine caravan or trailer service. Once the system has been fitted correctly, the new brake should not require any further manual adjustment, thus saving time during annual services.

AL-KO Kober recommends that brake drums should still be removed to check that all braking components inside the drum are correctly positioned to maintain optimum operation. Removing the drum also enables debris and dust build-up inside the drum to be removed to eliminate any risk of poor braking performance.

AAA Premium Brake is available for both original equipment and aftermarket fitment, with kits available for both 2051 and 2361 brake sizes. Each kit contains a complete back plate fitted with the new brake system. Fitting is exactly the same as the original system, the only difference is the initial adjustment of the brakes when first fitted. The new brake should be set with 3mm to 4mm of play in the Bowden cables as opposed to the 5mm to 8mm of play recommended for the original system.

The new aftermarket boxed kits will be available from February 2016 with retail prices for the kits set at £175.00 including VAT for the 2051 brake kit and £225.00 inc. VAT for the 2361 brake kits. To ensure the new brakes are installed and set up correctly with the right torque values and toe in and camber settings, the premium brake kit upgrade can only be carried out by Dealers and Approved Service Centres and therefore local fitting charges will apply.

The original equipment brake kits are available now and can be supplied with any new axle order. For further information please contact AL-KO when ordering new trailer axles.

Finally, to prove that AL-KO Kober’s AAA Premium Brake is installed, AL-KO AAA dust covers can be fitted to the trailer’s wheels.

Gloucestershire-based Advanced Insulation – a leading manufacturer of specialist passive fire protection and thermal insulation materials for the upstream oil and gas industry; and manufacturer and supplier of fendering and buoyancy products for the global marine and offshore energy markets – is sponsoring a subsea supply-chain networking event taking place at Bristol’s Armada House on 27th January 2016.

Organised by Subsea UK, the body representing the £9billion British subsea industry, the event will give approximately 40 South West-based businesses operating in the subsea sector the chance to identify opportunities and debate the challenges facing the oil & gas, defence, oceanology and marine renewables markets.

Supported by UK Trade & Investment South West, Advanced Insulation will be co-sponsoring the event with Castrol - Global Marine & Energy Lubricants, Agito Technical Dynamics, Rochling Plastics and Viper Subsea Technologies; and the company’s Global Sales Manager (SURF), Guy Downie, will also be giving a presentation on its subsea buoyancy and SURF solutions.

Boasting over 320 members, Subsea UK is a self-sustaining body championing the UK’s subsea supply chain and acting as a focal point to promote the sector, maximise its opportunities and provide a national forum for collaboration, diversification and technology development.

Commenting for Subsea UK, chief executive Neil Gordon says: “As an organisation covering the whole of the UK, we want to help all companies in the subsea sector exploit the potential to increase business at home and abroad, particularly in the current lower oil price environment. There is a huge amount of innovation and expertise in the south-west of England, particularly in subsea oil and gas.

“Collaboration and driving efficiencies through new technology are critical if the sector is to thrive against the challenges of a low commodity price. Oil and gas is the largest market for subsea companies and the sector must rise to the challenge of developing new solutions that will increase production and recovery of hydrocarbon reserves at lower cost. This event is an important step in helping organisations in the south-west to come together and work towards a common goal. Anyone with an interest in the subsea industry is welcome to attend.” he says.

Anyone wishing to attend the event can purchase tickets from the Subsea UK website.

About Curtiss-Wright Corporation

Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE:CW) is a global innovative company that delivers highly engineered, critical function products and services to the commercial, industrial, defense and energy markets. Building on the heritage of Glenn Curtiss and the Wright brothers, Curtiss-Wright has a long tradition of providing reliable solutions through trusted customer relationships. The company employs approximately 9,000 people worldwide.

Curtiss-Wright’s Industrial division today announced that it has launched a new non-contact, rotary position sensor from its brand family of Williams Controls.

The WM-830 is a cost-effective, non-contact rotary position sensor that uses proven Hall-effect technology to provide accurate and reliable measurement of angular position. Its mechanical, ruggedized design offers exceptional levels of performance against water, dust, shock, vibration and temperature.

Benefits of the WM-830 rotary position sensor include:

  • Non-contact sensing technology provides a long mechanical life
  • Standard 48.5 degrees measurement angle – common for many electronic throttle pedal designs
  • Interchangeable with the existing WM-810 rotary position sensor
  • Available with optional PWM outputs and 15- to 360-degree measurement angle.
  • Connects via industry-standard Packard Electric ‘Metri-Pack’ 150 connectors

The WM-830 operates from a 5Vdc supply and has dual integrated circuits that are electrically isolated to provide two truly independent voltage signals, allowing the host electronics to detect output errors. In the event of connection errors, the sensor outputs enter pre-defined states, providing further integrity. Mechanical engagement with the rotating portion of the sensor is via a slotted cavity.

The sensor is ideal for use by OEMs of on- and off-highway vehicles that are destined for use in challenging environments, and as a cost-effective solution for medium volume applications where a small degree of customization may be required.
