Significant growth sees Advanced Insulation Korea move manufacturing operation to larger facility

UK-based Advanced Insulation – a leading manufacturer of technical coatings, specialised passive fire protection systems and thermal insulation materials for the upstream oil and gas industry – has moved its Korea-based manufacturing operation to a larger facility in Sinpyeong-dong.

Commenting for Advanced Insulation Korea, General Manager Andrew Court says: “Following significant growth and expected demand from both Korean Shipyards and local EPC contracts for our ContraFlex® range of flexible passive fire insulation jackets, it was apparent that the existing facility in Hwajeon-dong was no longer suitable for the increased manufacturing requirements in Korea.”

Advanced Insulation’s ContraFlex range is designed to provide high-performance, thermal insulation and passive fire protection from jet or hydrocarbon fire to equipment that requires frequent maintenance access such as valves, actuators, welding nodes, manways, junction boxes, process vessels, hot equipment exhausts and localised protection.

Andrew goes on to say that Advanced Insulation Korea’s expansion to a 2,000 square meter facility highlights the growth the company is currently experiencing. “The increased space improves production efficiencies and warehousing to ensure that we continue to exceed our customers’ expectations. Recent growth and the expansion have allowed us to double the employment of local staff and build better business in Korea.”

The news follows similar recent announcements from Advanced Insulation regarding the expansion of its facilities in Gloucester, Plymouth and Houston.

Advanced Insulation, a leading manufacturer of technical coatings for the upstream oil and gas industry, will be launching a modular cryogenic spill protection tile system and promoting its range of unique, syntactic phenolic resin-based foam insulation and fire protection systems at this year’s Gastech Conference & Exhibition in Korea.

In addition, on Wednesday 26th March, Advanced Insulation’s Asaf Hisherik will be presenting a paper on Cryogenic Spill Protection at Gastech’s Centre of Technical Excellence (CoTE), using knowledge gained from his first class honours degree in civil engineering, his MBA and his experience of many years in civil/structural engineering for oil and gas facilities.

Asaf’s presentation, the culmination of a three year development project with key floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) operators, Korean fabrication yards and global engineering firms, will provide an overview of the requirements and system solutions for protection against cryogenic spillage on offshore FLNG facilities.

New on Advanced Insulation’s stand is the company’s ContraFlame® CSP & PFP cryogenic spill protection systems. Designed to support rapid application during construction or offshore retrofit, the fire-rated cryogenic spill protection systems consist of phenolic or polyester fiberglass reinforced tiles filled with ContraFlame C50 thermal insulation material. The system provides integrated thermal insulation and passive fire protection to J60 or H120 IMO classifications and thermal insulation for decks exposed to cryogenic spill.

Advanced Insulation will also be showcasing a range of products including its recently launched ContraFlame Under Deck Lightweight solutions, which takes full advantage of the proven corrosion under insulation (CUI) performance of Advanced Insulation’s ContraFlame and ContraTherm® products.

The company claims that the application of its new lightweight technologies will revolutionise the industry and address the handling problems associated with traditional under-deck solutions, where a combination of up to four different systems are required to cope with the condensation, ice build-up, extreme heat and high humidity issues found above the cellar deck.

Commenting on its lightweight technologies, Advanced Insulation’s Asaf Hisherik says: “A combination of traditional solutions would typically result in significant weight and handling implications for many facilities. However, by applying our ContraFlame technology to develop a lightweight under deck system, we have provided weight savings of up to 60%.”

Experts from Advanced Insulation’s offices in the UK and Korea will be available throughout the exhibition and, with experience in both topside and subsea applications, are well placed to discuss the benefits of the lightweight system that has already been installed by major oil companies including Exxon, Chevron, Total, BP and Talisman.
