Farnborough. 9-11 February 2016. Stand T134.
Q8Oils will be using its stand at Southern Manufacturing 2016 to promote its many recently-launched products and service-led initiatives available for the UK market.
Since Q8 Brunel was launched in early 2015, Q8Oils has continued development of its revolutionary water-soluble machining and grinding fluid and can now offer ten grades in the range that have been developed to out-perform all other fluids. All grades are suitable for use in hard or soft water, with ultra low foaming properties and are ideal for high-speed machining applications and the demanding fluid delivery pressures found on modern machine tools. The range is also designed to be fully-compliant with the latest European industry legislation.
Another product being promoted at the show is Q8 Berlioz, a range of soluble cutting and grinding fluids developed to be tolerant to both hard and soft water and free of formaldehyde, chlorine and secondary amines. Each of the six grades in the range has been specifically formulated for the light- to heavy-duty machining of numerous ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys on CNC machines, machining centres, flexible manufacturing systems and all centralised systems.
With the company so confident in its new grades and existing portfolio of neat and soluble cutting fluids, Q8Oils will continue to promote its ‘Challenge’ initiative which, launched in early 2015, offers new customers the opportunity to trial Q8 metal working fluids in their own machine shopson a payment-by-results basis.
Another service-led initiative being promoted is QCare, a network-enabled, tablet-based system with a bespoke ‘app’ that enables Q8Oils field service technicians (FSTs) to monitor fluids, complete audits and deliver results while still on site.

Q8Oils has announced a reorganisation of its European lubricants manufacturing following the recent completion of a £100 million investment to upgrade its European blending plant in Antwerp. Having doubled capacity at its Antwerp plant, which is now capable of producing 250 million litres of blended product a year, Q8Oils has moved its UK blending operations to Antwerp and is investing in a new purpose-built UK headquarters in Leeds.
Explaining the changes, UK managing director Andy Dixon stresses that this is a positive step for the UK and that Q8Oils is now focusing on expanding its business in the UK market. “This move is part of our plans for a long term commitment to the manufacturing, automotive and energy sectors and the restructuring includes new headquarters in Leeds that opened on 3rd July.”
Andy also confirms that Q8Oils has announced the appointment of new business partners, IBL Bulk Liquids, Reynolds Logistics, Potters Logistics and Clarke Transport, to manage the company’s bulk storage and pack operations in the UK.
All new UK distribution partners are established experts in packaging and distribution; and the Q8 products delivered will be the same as those already sold in the UK, with products being processed in Antwerp and delivered to Q8Oils’ UK partners.
From its operations on the River Hull and in the Port of Hull, IBL Bulk Liquids will provide Q8Oils with services and facilities for the handling and storage of bulk liquids. They are perfectly located to handle product imports from Q8Oils in Europe and its sites offer excellent connections to the UK road and rail networks. IBL Bulk Liquids offer 120 storage tanks, with a total capacity of around 34,500 cubic metres and handling facilities for road tankers and tank containers.
Operating throughout the UK, Reynolds Logistics provides metered deliveries of lubricants and, using the markets’ largest operational fleet of metered tankers and IBC vehicles based in more than six strategic locations, they are well placed to provide Q8Oils with a fast and efficient delivery service.
Potters Logistics maintains a centrally-managed fleet of articulated and rigid vehicles and will provide Q8Oils with a flexible, cost-effective road freight and transport logistics distribution service from its six distribution centres and rail freight terminals.
Finally, family owned and operated Clarke Transport uses state-of-the-art technology, machinery and vehicles to ensure that the Q8Oils service remains ahead of the field. Based on old-fashioned values of safety, excellent customer service, integrity and reliability, Clarke Transport specialises in transporting sensitive goods for some of the world’s leading manufacturers of chemicals.
Andy Dixon states: “The important message to Q8Oils’ loyal UK customers is longevity and optimisation and, through better utilisation of European assets, the UK business is already creating long-term commitments, including new area sales manager appointments and recently signed major contracts, all of which demonstrate an on-going commitment to the UK.”
Some of the rationalising of the UK business has been influenced through experience gained during a similarly successful merger recently completed by Q8Oils in Scandinavia. Two years ago the expanded Antwerp plant began supplying product to the region and the service proved so successful that Q8Oils was able to merge operations in Denmark and Sweden and supply the entire Scandinavian customer base from there. The move means that Q8Oils is now the largest oil company in Scandinavia and the experienced gained has provided a successful model that has been a useful guide to the UK team.

Q8Oils will be using its stand at ME North East to promote ‘The Challenge’ – the company’s recently launched metal working fluid initiative for machine shop owners and operators – which offers new customers the opportunity to trial soluble and neat metal cutting fluids in their machine shops.
Commenting for Q8Oils, direct sales manager Jeremy Dineen says: “The Challenge was launched because we are so confident that customers will find a Q8 metal working fluid that is ideal for their processes and applications, and saves them money.”
Q8Oils is proud that it offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios of neat and soluble cutting fluids in the UK and is convinced that, by offering a payment-by-results trial, The Challenge will prove the benefits of Q8 metal working fluids to manufacturers.
After first establishing clear, mutually-agreed objectives, Q8Oils will set up the trial and then monitor on-going performance of the lubricant to ensure that it, and the machine, are operating at peak performance. A comprehensive report on the results is presented during the trial.
As well as performance requirements, Q8Oils also recognises its customers’ commercial needs, explains Jeremy. “By offering optimum, high and extreme performance products, we can help customers balance criteria, such as surface finish, the severity of the working environment and productivity, against cost.”
Q8Oils will also be using its stand to promote the recently launched Q8 Brunel, its latest revolution in water-soluble machining and grinding fluids. The Q8 Brunel range has been developed to out-perform all other fluids and has already been successfully tried and tested with manufacturers across Europe where, for example, Q8 Brunel XF 343 has fulfilled and passed the criteria for Snecma Safran 455-201-0-00-B aerospace approval.
Q8 Brunel is designed to be fully compliant with latest European industry legislation resulting in products that are free from boron, boric acid, chlorinated paraffin, secondary amine, formaldehyde releasing biocides, nitrites, cresols and phenols.
“Following extensive research and both laboratory and field-trial testing, we have reinvented the way in which the industry approaches soluble MWF chemistry by developing a completely new approach that focuses on three pillars – product performance, environmental protection and operator health,” says Jeremy.
All grades are suitable for use in hard or soft water, with ultra low foaming properties. Q8 Brunel metal working fluids are ideally suited for high speed machining applications and demanding fluid delivery pressures found on modern machine tools. Subject to customer requirements, significant improvements of tool life and surface finish are achievable.
For further information on the new Q8 Brunel range, or if you are interested in taking The Challenge, visit the Q8Oils stand where our team can help determine which metal working fluid from Q8Oils’ portfolio of six product families – Q8 Brunel, Q8 Berlioz, Q8 Baroni, Q8 Beethoven, Q8 Bach and Q8 Brahms – is right for your application.
