Advanced Insulation, a leading manufacturer of technical coatings and specialised passive fire protection and thermal insulation materials, is delighted to announce the acquisition of Nottinghamshire-based Covertherm Limited, a manufacturer of insulation jackets.
Established in 2009 by Managing Director Paul Kendrick, Covertherm’s range of bespoke thermal insulation jacket and cover solutions provide exceptional heat savings and are well aligned to complement Advanced Insulation’s ContraFlex® range of flexible fire protection jackets.
Commenting for Advanced Insulation, Managing Director Andrew Bennion says: “At a time when many manufacturers are looking abroad for low-cost production solutions, we’re looking to reverse that trend and this acquisition will provide a UK manufacturing base for our ContraFlex range of passive fire insulation jackets, which will now be produced by Covertherm for the UK and export markets.
“It is also an opportunity for Covertherm’s own portfolio to be introduced to Advanced Insulation’s other jacket manufacturing bases and we expect the company to grow significantly over the next 12 months.”
The new UK manufacturing facility adds to already established production facilities in Dubai, Kazakhstan and Korea and will provide increased production capacity that will help to cope with the increasing demand for ContraFlex products.
Commenting for Covertherm, Managing Director Paul Kendrick says: “To succeed, you need to find something to hold on to and something that motivates and inspires you. Advanced Insulation’s acquisition has provided this for me and all Covertherm staff; and we are looking forward to further rapid growth and the introduction of new products.”
Advanced Insulation’s ContraFlex is a range of custom flexible protection jackets designed to provide high-performance thermal insulation and protection from jet or hydrocarbon fire to equipment that requires frequent maintenance access such as valves and actuators, welding nodes, manways, junction boxes, process vessels, hot equipment exhausts and localised protection.

Q8Oils will be using its stand at ME North East to promote ‘The Challenge’ – the company’s recently launched metal working fluid initiative for machine shop owners and operators – which offers new customers the opportunity to trial soluble and neat metal cutting fluids in their machine shops.
Commenting for Q8Oils, direct sales manager Jeremy Dineen says: “The Challenge was launched because we are so confident that customers will find a Q8 metal working fluid that is ideal for their processes and applications, and saves them money.”
Q8Oils is proud that it offers one of the most comprehensive portfolios of neat and soluble cutting fluids in the UK and is convinced that, by offering a payment-by-results trial, The Challenge will prove the benefits of Q8 metal working fluids to manufacturers.
After first establishing clear, mutually-agreed objectives, Q8Oils will set up the trial and then monitor on-going performance of the lubricant to ensure that it, and the machine, are operating at peak performance. A comprehensive report on the results is presented during the trial.
As well as performance requirements, Q8Oils also recognises its customers’ commercial needs, explains Jeremy. “By offering optimum, high and extreme performance products, we can help customers balance criteria, such as surface finish, the severity of the working environment and productivity, against cost.”
Q8Oils will also be using its stand to promote the recently launched Q8 Brunel, its latest revolution in water-soluble machining and grinding fluids. The Q8 Brunel range has been developed to out-perform all other fluids and has already been successfully tried and tested with manufacturers across Europe where, for example, Q8 Brunel XF 343 has fulfilled and passed the criteria for Snecma Safran 455-201-0-00-B aerospace approval.
Q8 Brunel is designed to be fully compliant with latest European industry legislation resulting in products that are free from boron, boric acid, chlorinated paraffin, secondary amine, formaldehyde releasing biocides, nitrites, cresols and phenols.
“Following extensive research and both laboratory and field-trial testing, we have reinvented the way in which the industry approaches soluble MWF chemistry by developing a completely new approach that focuses on three pillars – product performance, environmental protection and operator health,” says Jeremy.
All grades are suitable for use in hard or soft water, with ultra low foaming properties. Q8 Brunel metal working fluids are ideally suited for high speed machining applications and demanding fluid delivery pressures found on modern machine tools. Subject to customer requirements, significant improvements of tool life and surface finish are achievable.
For further information on the new Q8 Brunel range, or if you are interested in taking The Challenge, visit the Q8Oils stand where our team can help determine which metal working fluid from Q8Oils’ portfolio of six product families – Q8 Brunel, Q8 Berlioz, Q8 Baroni, Q8 Beethoven, Q8 Bach and Q8 Brahms – is right for your application.
In a move to strengthen relationships with customers and key suppliers in the North American oil and gas market, Gloucester-based Advanced Insulation – a leading manufacturer of technical and insulation materials for the upstream oil and gas industry; and specialist in the design, engineering and manufacture of polymer solutions for the marine and offshore sectors – has appointed Mike Sherman and Larry King as sales managers.
With responsibility for all North American subsea sales, Mike Sherman’s focus will be the development and implementation of strategic growth plans for this key Advanced Insulation market. Gloucester-based Advanced Insulation – a leading manufacturer of technical and insulation materials for the upstream oil and gas industry; and specialist in the design, engineering and manufacture of polymer solutions for the marine and offshore sectors – will be using its stand at the Seawork International exhibition to promote its Manuplas range of marine buoys and fender systems.
The Manuplas name has a long association with the design, manufacture and supply of marine products – such as modular bow fender systems for offshore wind farm service vessels – to ports, harbours, navies, boat builders and vessel operators around the world.
Commenting for Advanced Insulation, Guy Downie, head of sales for its Manuplas buoyancy products says: “This is a really exciting year to be attending Seawork as we have so much to tell the market. Firstly, there’s the news and expansion plans regarding Advanced Insulation’s acquisition of Manuplas. Secondly, there’s the on-going research that has gone into developing leading concepts for lightweight fender solutions.”
This research and development has seen the company develop and manufacture high-performance products, incorporating physically cross-linked polyethylene foams which, to increase abrasion and tear resistance, are sprayed in a unique protective marine-grade polyurethane coating that allows for the incorporation of a nylon or Kevlar reinforcement in the skin.
Additionally, Advanced Insulation will also use the stand to promote its new modular, foamless polyurethane fenders, which deliver energy absorption properties through the design of the internal structure.
Also on the stand will be the Manuplas range of cast boat and foam-filled floating fenders; and portfolio of mooring, navigation, marker, anchor pendant, chain support and modular buoys.
